Prof Tom has been a great mentor in guiding me to pursue great heights in the entrepreneurial pathway. During my NUS Overseas College iLEAD programme, where I was exposured to the Silicon Valley culture, Prof Tom’s great advises opened new window of opportunities for me. During the startup pitch night, where Prof Tom was one of the honourable judges, he gave valuable insights in delivering successful pitches, which undeniably assisted me in acing the pitch night and impressing the judges. I would recommend Prof Tom if you are looking for a great advisor to assist you in the field of entrepreneurship or understanding the startup market.

Andres Fontecilla
Lecturer
Stanford University

Tom is an excellent teacher; I was with him at the Catholic University in Chile. I’ve never met a teacher with so much talent, with very few words what is taught in a science book of hundred sheets, has plenty of spirit and is a person and is worthy of being a unique person.

Typically, people ask others to recommend them on LinkedIn. With Professor Kosnik, it’s the other way around – people voluntarily implore to recommend him.

Since elementary school, I have seen a broad spectrum of “great” and “not so great” teachers. Having participated in a unique education program that was restricted to students who scored in the top 99.9% of an intellectual assessment (an IQ of 145+), I was presented with a challenging curriculum at an early age. From this early exposure to quality education, I have seen a wide range of teachers, from “good” ones to “bad” ones. I have noticed that this spectrum exists even at Stanford University. Professor Kosnik represents one of the “good,” in fact perhaps the best, instructors I have ever encountered.

Tom was one of my best professors and graduate advisors at Stanford. He exemplifies interdisciplinary thinking and teaching at the edge, bridging academia with industry leaders, globally, to demonstrate what is possible. He taught me how engineers can be effective, global entrepreneurs, how to create and leverage value by building teams that sustain great organizations. Tom’s thinking on leadership, global entrepreneurial marketing, negotiation, managing global products/ projects/partnerships, and cultural implications are essential for anyone creating a new innovative business from scratch.

Educator, Advisor

A few times in your life, you discover a teacher who has mastered his craft and subject, delivering a classroom experience that is at once both memorable and rich in its wisdom. Rarer still, however, is the teacher who can, in fifteen minutes of conversation, ignite within his student a confidence and determination to go forth and do grand things with that knowledge. Tom is one of those teachers, and one that I hope to borrow many things from when it is my turn to teach another.

Tom is a very dynamic and creative professor. He enjoys reaching out and inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs. I had the pleasure of taking his Global Entrepreneurial Marketing class as well as invite him to speak at the Stanford Asia Technology Initiative Global Entrepreneurship Conference in Singapore.

David Sanford

Chief of Staff, Office of Reid Hoffman

Tom’s Global Entrepreneurial Marketing course inspired me to pursue my course of study at Stanford, and he proved to be one of the most dedicated and world class professors I encountered during my time there. Tom also provided unparalleled advice and guidance as an advisor both to my startup company and to me personally. Tom will have a permanent seat on my “personal board of advisors” as long as he is willing.

Tom was my professor for Entrepreneurial Marketing at HBS. His passion for teaching was contagious. He encouraged (i.e., forced) us to think big, plan our lives and dared us to go out and execute upon our dreams. He was, without a doubt, the most inspiring of all of our teachers and took great pride in mentoring any student who sought it. He’s always been generous with his time and offerings to help (e.g., he gladly shares his network relationships to help people). There are countless entrepreneurs who attribute much of their successes to his efforts and teachings.
